Call for Gallaudet University Athletics Hall of Fame nominations set for January 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University athletics department announced Tuesday that the next round of nominations for the Athletics Hall of Fame will begin next year in January 2012. There will not be a GU Athletics Hall of Fame induction this fall. For the past three years the athletics department has been catching up on adding inductees into the Hall of Fame. There have been several gaps in Hall of Fame class years since it was established in 1986. Most recently there was a 10-year gap from the 1998 Hall of Fame class and the 2008 Hall of Fame class.

The Hall of Fame was designed to formally recognize outstanding individuals who have made exceptional contributions as a student-athlete, coach or as an honorary member (manager, media member, booster, game official, etc.) with the Bison that brought the program recognition, honor and distinction to the University and its intercollegiate athletics program. The GU Athletics Hall of Fame is a way to preserve the rich-heritage and tradition of the University's intercollegiate athletics program.

“We wanted to give our alumni and fan base enough time to start planning their nominations for next year’s Gallaudet University Athletics Hall of Fame class,” said Director of Athletics Michael Weinstock. “We have been able to honor many, many former Bison greats and we look forward to adding more deserving people in the fall of 2012.”
