Gallaudet University places 34 student-athletes on the 2010-11 NEAC Scholar-Athlete list
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – In its first year in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) the Bison from Gallaudet University shined on and off the field of play. Gallaudet placed 34 student-athletes on the 2010-11 NEAC Scholar-Athlete list as they met the NEAC’s requirement of a grade point average of 3.4 or higher for the fall and spring semesters combined.
Gallaudet finished tied for fourth overall among NEAC institutions with 34 honorees along with Penn St.-Harrisburg. Keuka College was first with 65 followed by Cazenovia College with 57 and Penn St.-Berks edged out GU and Penn St.-Harrisburg for third with 35 selections. Two associate members, Medaille College and Rutgers University-Camden, had 11 and three honorees, respectively, for the NEAC sports they participate in. The NEAC honored 371 student-athletes from 14 different institutions this year.
Gallaudet’s women’s swimming and volleyball teams both had six honorees followed by women’s soccer and women’s basketball with five selections apiece and softball (three). Men’s soccer led the men’s sports with five honorees followed by men’s swimming (three), men’s basketball (two) and baseball (one). There were only two student-athletes from Gallaudet that played more than one sport.
In addition to the NEAC Scholar-Athlete list the Bison had five student-athletes named to the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) all-academic team back in the fall. Those honorees had to post a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Gallaudet’s grand total of student-athletes who earned all-academic honors this season is 39.
In 2009-10, the final year in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC), the Bison had 58 student-athletes named to the all-academic team but the requirement for that league was a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
