Former NFL player Kenny Walker joins Gallaudet football coaching staff
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University football program is proud to announce that former National Football League (NFL) player Kenny Walker has joined the 2010 coaching staff to help with the defensive linemen. Walker was a defensive lineman with the Denver Broncos in 1991 and 1992. When he made his debut in the NFL he became the first deaf player in the league in nearly 20 years.
"I am very excited for our football players to have Kenny on our coaching staff. He is an excellent role model as he showed the deaf or hard-of-hearing people can play in the NFL," said Gallaudet University Director of Athletics Michael Weinstock. "When I started my Athletic Director duties here at GU, Kenny Walker was one name on my list that I wanted to join our staff. I am glad he is now part of the Bison program."
Walker also played with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian
Football League (CFL) after his time with the Broncos. The 
6-for-4, 260-pound lineman is the first known deaf player in the
CFL. Walker was a letterman at the University of Nebraska from
1986-90 where he was selected as an All-American in 1990.
Walker was selected as the Big 8 Defensive Player of the Year and
named all-conference his senior year. He played in the Senior Bowl
in 1991 and was drafted in the eighth round by the Broncos with the
200th overall pick in the 1991 NFL Draft. Walker published an
autobiography "Roar of Silence: The Kenny Walker Story" in
1998.
"Kenny is a great addition to our coaching staff this season," said Gallaudet football head coach Chuck Goldstein. "His football knowledge is off the charts. He is a great example of what a strong work ethic and determination can lead to."
