Gallaudet Loses Thriller To Stevenson

Despite 22 points from Jon Mowl, Gallaudet suffered a 65-62 defeat to Stevenson College today.  Overcoming a tremendous height disadvantage, Gallaudet played solid basketball, but foul trouble hurt them as several players had to sit for extended stretches. For the game, Gallaudet was called for 27 fouls, while Stevenson committed 12, and Stevenson shot 37 free throws compared to 10 for Gallaudet.

The half-time score was 37-36 in favor of Gallaudet, and it stayed close throughout the second half as both teams exchanged baskets.  Gallaudet's defense did a great job shutting down Stevenson, holding them to 28% shooting from the floor. Greg Woody, third in the Capital Athletic Conference with 18 points per game, was held to 2-14 shooting, but made 8 free throws.

On defense, Mowl also provided a spark, getting 5 steals. Tony Tatum scored 14 points for Gallaudet in the losing effort.  No other Gallaudet player reached double figures in scoring, but Jeremy Thrush came off the bench to score 8 points in ten minutes. Despite Stevenson being taller at almost every position, including a pair of 6'9 big men, Gallaudet grabbed 36 rebounds to 41 for Stevenson.

With the loss, Gallaudet goes to 7-4 on the season and 0-4 in the CAC.  Stevenson is 3-10.  Gallaudet will play their next three games on the road, starting with the Universiity of Mary Washington on January 14.  The next Gallaudet home game will be January 21 vs. York College at 8 pm.
