Stingy Defense Leads to 67-39 Rout of Christendom
Using a devastating first half defensive effort, Gallaudet notched their second straight win and ninth of the season, routing Christendom College 67-39.
The Bison's stifling defense limited the Crusaders to 12 first half points, a season best. "We knew coming into the game tonight that we needed to pressure their guards and play solid defense," said freshman sensation Tony Tatum, who scored 15 of his team best 19 points in the first half.
The game was decided early and decisively when the Bison, led by Tatum and Sekoe White (9 points), shot 50% (16 for 32) leading to a 38-12 advantage at intermission. The Bison held the Crusaders to a mere 22% (5 for 23) shooting and forced 15 turnovers.
"The defensive intensity was great, which allowed us to build a big lead in the first half," Gallaudet Head Coach Jeb Barber said. "We need to try to take this positive defensive effort into the next game against Marymount."
Lance Gonzalez came off the bench to score 9 points. Chi Pun played a solid game with 8 points and 3 rebounds. Jeremy Thrush added 7 points and 5 rebounds.
After the game, Bobby Seibert said, "We played well today but it's not enough to just play well against non-conference opponents. We need to take the momentum we have and win against CAC opponents."
With the win, the Bison are 9-8, an improvement from last year when they won 6 games.
The Bison host CAC foe Marymount at the Gallaudet Field House Wednesday night at 8 pm.
