Bison rally in final two minutes but come up short against Rowan

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team played until the final whistle on Sunday in the consolation game of the Rinso Marquette Tournament hosted by Lebanon Valley College. The Bison went on a 14-2 run in the final two minutes to cut the lead held by Rowan University to five, 69-64, with 16 seconds left. The Profs (2-1) held onto win the game 71-64.

Gallaudet (1-2) opened up the game with a 3-pointer for the second straight day as senior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) hit the shot 19 seconds into the game. He finished the game with 14 points, seven assists, four blocks and four rebounds. GU received another 3-pointer a minute later when senior guard Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) scored the bucket to give the Bison the 6-4 lead at the 18:25. This was the last lead GU held in the game. Tatum scored seven points and seven rebounds.

Rowan took a seven-point lead into halftime up 35-28. In the second half, the Profs opened up a 19-point lead at the 10 minute mark and later matched the biggest lead mark with 4:23 left in regulation up 67-48. The score remained the same until the 2:15 mark when senior guard Brandon McMillan (Frederick, Md.) made a layup to spark Gallaudet's 14-2 run. McMillan tallied 14 points and five rebounds.

Junior forward Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points and grab 14 rebounds and swatted away two shots. Kelly was Gallaudet's representative on the all-tournament team.

Kendall White led Rowan with 19 points and five steals while teammate Rich McNamara netted 13 and brought down a game-high 20 rebounds (14 on the defensive end). Jason Rosenberg added 11 points and nine assists. Jason Sofman was named to the all-tournament team for the Profs as he scored 17 points the night before but only had one points, three rebounds against the Bison.

Rowan outrebounded Gallaudet by four, 42-38, but the Bison bench doubled up the Profs, 26-13.

Gallaudet will host Christendom College on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game before Thanksgiving.
