Bison snap goal drought with mark against Christendom
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman forward Abdul Al-Makura (Bassa, Nigeria) scored a goal for the Gallaudet University men's soccer team on a wet and damp Wednesday evening at Hotchkiss Field against Christendom College. The visiting Crusaders won the non-conference game 4-1. The goal was the first for the Bison in over 400 minutes since a 5-1 loss to Southern Virginia University on September 22.
Al-Makura scored his third goal in the 63rd minute as he lofted a shot over Christendom goalie Tim Vander Woude's head (four saves) and into the back of the net.
Christendom (9-3) scored two first half goals off the foot of Nicholas Blank to send the Crusaders into halftime up 2-0 over the Bison (0-8). Blank's second goal was assisted by Sean LaRochelle.
In the second half, Gallaudet gave up an own goal to fall behind 3-0 at the 54th minute. The Bison got on the board with Al-Makura's goal in the 63rd minute before the Crusaders added two insurance goals from Paul Nangurai and Anthony Reddings.
Christendom outshot Gallaudet 22-9 and took 10 corner kicks to the two by the Bison.
