Gallaudet has hard time weathering Storm
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The weather forecast for Sunday in the nation's capital was slated to be gloomy with a lot of rain but those storm plans held off for the Gallaudet University men's soccer team. The Bison had a different type of Storm to deal with as GU welcomed Keuka College to Hotchkiss Field for a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game. The Keuka Storm (4-2-1, 2-1-1 NEAC) netted three goals in the first and second halves en route to a 6-0 shutout victory over the Bison (0-7, 0-3 NEAC) on a sunny afternoon.
Gallaudet recorded a season best 10 shots as freshman Abdul Al-Makura (Bassa, Nigeria) led the way with four shots (one on goal). Senior forward Zane Noschese (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added three shots and sophomore James Rummo (Butler, N.J.) had the team's other shot on goal.
The Bison have been held scoreless for nearly 350 consecutive minutes, a streak that spans four games.
Keuka was paced by Jack Reece (two goals) and Kyle Rivera (two assists). The Storm scored their first goal seven minutes in and quickly added a second, three minutes later. Reece sent Keuka into halftime up 3-0 when he scored from 30 yards out off a free kick.
In the second half, the Storm scored three goals in the final 17 minutes of play where Rivera assisted on two of the tallies. The last goal came off the head of Nick Godward in the 85th minute. Godward headed home the goal off a nice cross from Rivera in the left corner.
Junior goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone, Botswana) got the start in net for the Bison where he made 12 saves and allowed four goals in 73 minutes of play. Freshman Jordan Ramser (Louisville, Ky.) came in to finish the game where he allowed two goals and made one save.
Gallaudet will close out its four-game homestand on Wednesday, September 29, when the Bison welcome Christendom College to Hotchkiss Field for a 7:30 p.m. night game.
