GU drops final game of season
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Gallaudet University men's soccer team ended its season with a 5-1 loss to Salem International University (W.Va.) on Senior Day. The game was played in front of a great turnout of fans—both current students and alumni—here to celebrate Homecoming Weekend.
Senior Zane Noschese (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored the lone goal for the Bison (1-17, 1-8 North Eastern Athletic Conference) to cap off his last game with the Buff and Blue. Junior goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone, Botswana) turned away five of the 10 shots on goal that came his way on the day. The Bison outshot the Tigers (1-13-1) 17-11 but couldn't add to Noschese's score in the 75th minute. The teams also tied in corner kicks with two apiece. Senior Jonathan Roquemore (Rowlett, Texas), freshman Ben Letendre (Marlborough, Mass.), and Noschese all fired away two shots on goal.
Juan Hurtado tallied two goals and an assist for the Tigers' first win of the season. His first goal in the 9th minute proved to be all the Tigers needed. Chris Pierzchala, Dwayne Phidd, and Javier Reyes also added goals for the visitors on a cold and breezy night at Hotchkiss Field.
The highlight of the 2010 season for the Bison came on October 2 at SUNY Cobleskill where Gallaudet beat the Fighting Tigers 1-0 to end a 62–game winless streak.
Gallaudet will look towards next season ready to begin its second year in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
