GU tripped up against Salem International as Kanashiro nets his 8th goal of the season
SALEM, W.Va. – Karim Farhan's hat trick for Salem International University was the difference in Wednesday's non-conference men's soccer game against Gallaudet University as the visiting Bison lost 3-1.
Gallaudet (2-13) fell behind early on two Farhan goals as he scored five minutes and 10 minutes in, respectively, against Bison freshman goalie Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.). The 2-0 lead didn't last for long as junior forward Jean-Pierre Kanashiro (Springfield, Va.) scored his eighth goal of the season off an assist from freshman midfielder Karlis Intsons (Riga, Latvia), the reigning North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week, in the 15th minute. Salem International (7-5-2), a Division II program, took the 2-1 lead into halftime.
Kanashiro has now scored a goal in four straight games to match the season-high streak set by Intsons earlier this month. Kanashiro has scored five goals in the month of October and has five goals in the past seven games.
In the second half, Farhan completed his hat trick with a goal off an assist from Javier Reyes in the 60th minute. Salem International outshot Gallaudet 22-7 and held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks. Setzer made three saves in the loss.
GU will conclude its 2011 season on Saturday, October 29, at home against NEAC foe Penn St.-Abington at noon.
