Gallaudet men's swimming wins seven events to take season opener against Frostburg State

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University men’s swimming team kicked off its 2010-11 season with a thrilling 110-90 victory over Frostburg State University before a packed crowd at the Field House pool on Friday night as part of Homecoming Weekend.

Junior Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won three freestyle events to pace the Bison. He finished first in the 100 free with a time of 50.7 seconds and first in the 200 free (1:51) and the 500 free (5:05). Junior James McGowan took the 50 freestyle with a blazing time of 23.86 seconds. Senior Daniel DiDonna (Parsippany, N.J.) won the 200 individual medley with a time of two minutes and 35 seconds. Freshman DJ Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.) made his collegiate swimming debut and won the 100 backstroke in the process, as he was the first to touch the wall with a time of 1:01.5.

The Gallaudet men’s 200-medley relay of senior Dan Burton (Waukesha, Wis.), DiDonna, senior Ben Taylor (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore Kailob Miller (Ardmore, Okla.) won with a time of 2:00.76 as they edged the Bobcats. Burton led off with the backstroke, which led to DiDonna in the breaststroke followed by Taylor in the butterfly and Miller brought it home with the freestyle.

The Bison will next travel to St. Mary’s City, Md., on Saturday, November 6, to face former Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe St. Mary’s (Md.) College and Goucher College in a double dual meet that will begin at 1 p.m.
