Brian Bennett breaks three school records in the freestyle
TOWSON, Md. – Senior Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had a record-breaking day in the pool on Saturday at Goucher College as he set three Gallaudet University program records as the Bison men's swimming team competed in a double dual meet against the host Gophers and Arcadia University. The Bison tied Arcadia 47-47 and lost to Goucher 68-27. Gallaudet is currently 3-2-1 this season.
Bennett finished first in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events to get things started. He finished the 200 free event in 1:48.43 while he touched the wall first in the 500 free at 4:55.34. In the final event of the meet, Bennett swam the opening leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay where he put the Bison out in front with a blazing time of 50.46 seconds to break the 100-yard freestyle record.
Sophomore DJ Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.) had two second-place finishes overall, but in the same two events he received first-place points against Arcadia because Goucher won the events. Everton-Lovell finished the 200-yard IM in 2:21.05 and followed that with his performance in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.91).
Senior James McGowan (Palm Coast, Fla.) was second overall in the 100-yard freestyle (52.64 seconds) and third in the 50-free sprint as he touched the wall in 24.14 seconds. Senior Sean Ryant (Cleveland, Ohio) took third-place, behind two Goucher swimmers, in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:49.69).
Gallaudet is now off until Saturday, Dec. 3, when the Bison welcome Wells College to campus for a North Eastern Athletic Conference meet.
