Gallaudet Splits Doubleheader With St. Paul's

Led by freshman pitcher Paige Johnson, Gallaudet's softball team started the season with a split of a doubleheader against St. Paul's College.

Making her collegiate debut, Johnson put on a dazzling pitching performance in the first game, pitching all six innings, giving up just five hits and 4 runs, while striking out five and walking two.  At one point, Johnson got 11 of 12 batters out.

Johnson also scored two runs as eight Bison batters had a hit in the game, led by Caitlin Mosholder, who went 3 of 4 and scored two runs. Keri Schmidt hit 1 for 2, with two walks, and scored two runs. Heather Willman was 2 for 3, with two RBI's and one run.

Gallaudet lost the second game 21-7. Johnson was the top Bison hitter in that game, going 2 for 3 with two runs and one RBI.

Gallaudet Head Coach Sarah Doleac is excited about the team's strong start and looks forward to a successful season with this year's team.  Coach Doleac said, "We need to improve our pitching depth and also work on our hitting.  When those two areas improve, we will be very successful."

Gallaudet next plays at the Beach Blast Tournament at Virginia Wesleyan University this weekend, starting with a 10:00 am game March 6 vs. Cabrini College.
