Bison women's basketball on the cusp of Top 25 polls
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gallaudet University inched closer in one Top 25 poll this past week as the Bison continue to remain strong in both polls ranking the top teams in NCAA Division III women's basketball.
Gallaudet (8-0) received 26 points in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll while the Bison gained nine points in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Top 25 coaches' poll through the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) up to 17 total points. If you count out the teams receiving votes in the coaches' poll Gallaudet would be No. 28 tied with one other school. GU is the 33rd school ranked in the D3hoops.com poll.
Gallaudet is the only team from the North Eastern Athletic Conference to receive votes in either poll. Both polls are updated every Tuesday. Amherst College (10-0), a national semifinalist a year ago is ranked No. 1 in both polls.
The Bison currently lead the nation in steals per game with 19.8 and is tied with nearly 25 schools for won-lost percentage (100 percent). GU is ranked in the Top 32 in 11 different statistical categories among 441 NCAA Division III women's basketball programs. The Bison are fourth in the nation in scoring margin (28.8 points), 10th in scoring offense (79.1 points per game), 10th in rebound margin (12.8 per game), and 10th in turnover margin (9.0). All-American senior forward/center Easter Faafiti (Pittsburg, Calif.) is ranked fifth in the nation in steals per game (4.6) and seventh in field goal percentage (60.7 percent).
