Randolph Defeats Gallaudet 4-0
Gallaudet's womens soccer team played even with Randolph College at Hotchkiss Field for the first 25 minutes of the game, dominating offensively before Randolph's Rachel Martinez scored the first of her two goals at the 18 minute mark of the first half to put Randolph ahead 1-0. Three minutes later Lori Gerlach scored to put Randolph ahead 2-0.
The game stayed that way the rest of the first half and most of the second half as both teams traded shots but neither team could score. Both goalkeepers, Gallaudet's Casey McCullough and Randolph's Victoria Johnson were outstanding and made numerous tough saves.
Randolph was able to get two more goals late in the game, by Nadia Mohelsen and Martinez, to make the final score 4-0.
Kahilia Merritt was outstanding on offense for Gallaudet, constantly driving the ball up and attempting five shots, but was not able to get the ball pass Johnson.
Gallaudet Head Coach Sarah Gumina said after the game there are areas the team needs to work on but they have improved in several areas as well. "Our passing is improving and we can continue to improve. We will keep working in practice on our passing and on running without the ball."
Gallaudet next plays at Columbia Union October 10 at 4 pm, then
will play 5 straight home games.
