Two Bison earn All-NEAC women's soccer honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its 2010 all-conference women's soccer teams and Gallaudet University had two players earn a spot on the second team in senior midfielder Virginia Keeler (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and sophomore goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.). The duo helped lead Gallaudet to a 7-11 record as the Bison had their best season since 2002.

Keeler ranked in the top 10 in the NEAC in several different offensive categories. She was fourth in goals scored with 16, fourth in total points with 36, and ninth in shots with 61. Keeler went on a tear in the final month of her stellar Bison career and was named October Bison of the Month. She netted a career-best 14 goals and four assists in 10 matches. She had one of the best games in program history during a road match at College of St. Elizabeth on October 10 where she scored a career-high five goals on nine shots, including the game-winning goal. Keeler was named the NEAC Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week a day later. She finished the month by recording an astonishing 1.4 goals and 3.2 points per game averages. Keeler capped off a terrific four-year career with the Buff and Blue, in which she scored 25 goals and five assists in 61 starts (64 games played). Her previous record for goals scored in a season was four, which occurred in 2007.

Gulvas also ranked in the top 10 in the NEAC in several goalkeeping categories.  She finished third in total saves (159), fourth in shutouts (two), seventh in goals against average at 2.51 and eighth in save percentage (.787). She played and started in every regular-season game but the last one because of injury. She logged 1,544 of a possible 1,639 minutes in net for the Bison. Gulvas finished the season with a 6-10 record. Her two shutouts came on September 5 on the road against Washington Adventist University and at home against Morrisville State College on October 16.

This season marked the first for Gallaudet University as a member of the NEAC. The two all-conference honors are the first for the women's soccer program in the new conference. Gallaudet only had two all-conference women's soccer honorees while in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) from 2000-09.

SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) captured first place in the regular season with a perfect 11-0 NEAC record. SUNYIT senior defender Samantha Reddington was named NEAC Player of the Year and her coach Tyler Renaud took home NEAC Coach of the Year honors. Cazenovia College senior Brittany Westcott was selected as NEAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Penn State-Harrisburg had the most all-conference selections as seven players were selected to one of the three teams.
