Bison win streak ends against Cazenovia
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University women's soccer team dropped a critical North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game on Sunday at Hotchkiss Field as Cazenovia slipped by the Bison 1-0. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Buff and Blue who are now 6-8 overall, 4-5 in the NEAC. Gallaudet currently sits in seventh place in the NEAC standings as the top six make the postseason tournament. Cazenovia (6-8) improves its conference record to 6-4.
Wildcat midfielder Nazera Carlson scored the game's only goal in the 57th minute off an assist from Kim Konnick. Carlson shot went to the upper left corner where it deflected off the crossbar downward, hit the ground, and spun backwards into the net past Bison goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.).
The GU offense did not have a sense of urgency as it only had five second half shots. Cazenovia outshot the Bison 14-9, 9-5 in the decisive second half. The Wildcats also took five corner kicks in the final 45 minutes of play while the Bison did not have one. Gulvas ended the game with six saves.
The Bison will next travel to Lancaster Bible College on Thursday, October 21, for a 4 p.m. non-conference game. GU only has two more conference games left in the regular-season.
