Gallaudet drops a pair of NEAC road games over the weekend
UTICA, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University women's soccer team dropped two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) games over the weekend in upstate New York. The Bison lost 3-1 on Saturday against SUNY Cobleskill and then dropped a tough 2-1 game on Sunday in Utica, N.Y., against SUNIT.
Gallaudet (3-7, 1-4 NEAC) has now dropped three games in a row, all in conference, after starting the NEAC season 1-1.
On Saturday, the Bison fell behind 2-0 in the first half against Cobleskill (5-5-1, 3-2 NEAC) as Kristen Raina scored back-to-back goals. Andrea Lisk added a third before the Bison got on the board in the 77th minute. Senior Virginia Keeler (Ann Arbor, Mich.) scored her third goal of the year off an assist from sophomore Johanna Arrigo (Ewing, N.J.). Cobleskill outshot Gallaudet 24-14 and doubled up the Bison on corner kicks, 8-4.
Sophomore goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) made a season-high 18 saves in the loss. She stopped 12 of the 15 first half shots by Cobleskill.
GU fell behind early on Sunday against SUNYIT as Kristina Strang scored her first of two goals just two minutes into the game. The Wildcats (9-3, 7-0 NEAC), the first-place team in the conference, took a 1-0 lead into the half.
In the second half, Strang added her second goal off an assist from Jamie Elderbroom in the 66th minute. Gallaudet cut the lead in half 10 minutes later when freshman Lauren Hostovsky (Medfield, Mass.) scored her fourth goal of the season.
Gulvas ended the game with seven saves as SUNYIT outshot Gallaudet 27-6.
Gallaudet remains in conference play on the road this week as the Bison travel to Wilson College on Wednesday, October 6, for a 4 p.m. game.
