Keeler scores five goals as Bison roll Saint Elizabeth
SOMERSET, N.J. – Senior midfielder Virginia Keeler (Ann Arbor, Mich.) had a career game on Sunday as she led the Gallaudet University women's soccer team to a 7-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory on the road against the College of Saint Elizabeth. The senior leader scored a career best five goals off nine shots as the Bison (5-7, 3-4 NEAC) picked up their second straight conference win this week. In the past two games GU has outscored its NEAC opponents 15-2.
Keeler scored two unassisted goals in the first 10 minutes of the first half as Gallaudet jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. Saint Elizabeth (4-10, 2-6 NEAC) got on the scoreboard in the 12th minute when Diane Da Silva scored a goal off an assist from Cassidy Crane. That was as close as the Screaming Eagles would get as Keeler and company went to work.
Sophomore Maddie Morgan (Hockessin, Del.) netted her second goal of the season right before halftime as the Bison took a 3-1 lead into intermission.
The second half belonged to the Bison as Keeler scored three of the four goals. Keeler scored the first two goals in the second half to give the Buff and Blue a 5-1 lead. Sophomore forward Johanna Arrigo (Ewing, N.J.) found the back of the net in the 80th minute off an assist from Tiffany Narciso (North Wildwood, N.J.) as the New Jersey natives made an appearance back in their home state. Narciso finished the game with two assists. Keeler ended her remarkable day with her fifth goal of the game, 10th of the season, as she scored past Saint Elizabeth goalie Sabrina Jarmolinski (19 saves) with four minutes left.
Sophomore goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) recorded 14 saves in the win as the Bison defense didn't allow a goal over the final 78 minutes of play. Gallaudet outshot Saint Elizabeth 30-22.
Gallaudet is off until this weekend when the Bison host two NEAC foes. The two-day homestand begins on Saturday, October 16, when the Bison welcome Morrisville State College to Hotchkiss Field for a 3 p.m. game. Cazenovia College visits on Sunday, October 17, for a 12 p.m. game.
