Two Bison earn All-NEAC women's soccer honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its 2011 all-conference teams for women's soccer and Gallaudet University had two players earn honors. Junior midfielder Maddie Morgan (Hockessin, Del.) was named to the second team, while freshman forward Katie Benz (Stafford, Va.) was selected for the third team.

Appearing in all 17 games for the Bison with 16 starts, Morgan led the team with three goals this season. She also led the team in shots (40). Morgan scored the first of GU's two goals in their 2-1 win over Wilson College.

Taking the second most shots on the team (38), Benz scored two goals and recorded one assist on the season. She appeared in all 17 games as well, starting 14 times. Her two goals included the game-winner in a 2-0 win against College of St. Elizabeth, putting GU on track to secure their second consecutive victory.

Last year two Bison, Virginia Keeler and Kara Gulvas, each earned second team honors for their efforts in leading Gallaudet to a 7-11 (4-7 NEAC) season record. Gulvas was sidelined this year with an injury and plans to return to the Bison squad next season.

Lancaster Bible College won the conference's regular-season championship with a perfect 11-0 record and earned two postseason awards. Chargers midfielder Ally Brown was selected NEAC Player of the Year as she scored 17 goals and recorded 10 assists on the year. Penn St.-Abington freshman forward Adriana Rodriguez won the conference's inaugural Rookie of the Year award after tallying 10 goals and an assist, while her teammate Emily Lloyd was named Goalkeeper of the Year after allowing only eight goals in 17 starts. She had seven shutouts in 11 NEAC contests. Lancaster Bible head coach Ken Craul was honored as NEAC Coach of the Year after leading the Chargers to a regular-season championship in their first season in the NEAC.

GU women's soccer concluded its season with a record of 2-15 and 2-10 in NEAC play.
