GU miss opportunities against SUNY Cobleskill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The momentum swayed on a cold and breezy Sunday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field as the Gallaudet University women's soccer team tied their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game against SUNY Cobleskill in the 55th minute at Hotchkiss Field. GU had battled back to tie the game after it trailed 1-0 just 13 minutes into the game. The Bison (0-9, 0-5 NEAC) momentum was squished six minutes later when the Fighting Tigers (3-6-2, 2-3-2 NEAC) responded with a goal and held onto win 2-1.

The Bison tied a season-high mark with 17 shots, 10 in the first half, as freshman midfielder Katie Benz (Stafford, Va.) tallied seven shots (four on goal). Junior midfielder Tiffany Narciso (North Wildwood, N.J.) got the Bison on the scoreboard when she received a nice pass from sophomore Lauren Sprague (Grafton, Mass.) and raced down the far sideline. Narciso then blasted a long shot into the net past goalie Jody Pendergast (nine saves). GU finished the NEAC doubleheader weekend with three goals.

Cobleskill answered when Samantha Martin assisted Erica Faulkner on her second goal of the game in the 61st minute. Faulkner led the Fighting Tigers with seven shots, three on goal and two goals. Teammate Nicole Rubino also had seven shots (three on goal). For the game Cobleskill outshot the Bison 23-17.

Gallaudet had several opportunities in the game, 10 shots on goal, to get on the scoreboard. One opportunity came and went when sophomore Lauren Hostovsky (Medfield, Mass.) missed an open net shot from several yards out in the second half as her kick went wide left of the net.

GU senior goalie Casey McCullough (Oceanside, Calif.) finished with nine saves in the game. The Bison held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.

Gallaudet will try and get into the win column on Wednesday night when the Bison welcome Wilson College to Hotchkiss Field for a 7:30 p.m. conference game.
