Gallaudet Swimming Notches First Win of the Season

(Dec. 6, Roanoke, VA) – Led by sophomore sensation Carlisle Robinson, the female Aqua-Bison won their first meet of the 2008-09 season with a 64-56 victory over Salem College in a double dual meet that also included Hollins College, which edged the Gally squad 63-59. Robinson, the captain of the women’s team, won the three most difficult events with ease: 1000 Free, 200 Fly and 400 IM, and was joined by a strong supporting cast of ten other swimmers, all of whom scored important points for the victory.

“While we judge success by the improvement of our times, the reality is that team wins feel very nice,” said Head Coach Bill Snape. “We’ve lost a few close, tough meets this year so it’s good to get that deserved win under our belt.”

The Gallaudet swim team now heads into the holiday break in excellent shape for its CAC Championship run in mid-February. Over the next week, exam week, the Aqua-Bison will train at Model High School in the mornings as the Gallaudet pool is refurbished. The team then returns to Washington, D.C. on January 5th for critical winter training. The next meet, the last home meet of the season and “Senior Day”, is Sunday January 11th at 1pm versus the College of Notre Dame.
