GU women's track and field begins season at LVC Invitational, finish sixth overall
ANNVILLE, Pa. - The 2010 Gallaudet University women's track and field indoor season began Saturday on the campus of Lebanon Valley College as the Bison finished sixth out of seven teams at the LVC Invitational. The Bison only competed in three of the 15 events and earned points in two of them as they finished with 11 team points.
The host Dutchmen from LVC won the invitational with 163 points as they held off Catholic University of America (126 points) and King's (Pa.) College (63 points). Capital Athletic Conference foe Hood College finished fourth with 39 points.
Freshman Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) finished second in the shot put as she made a toss of 34 feet, 5.5 inches to earn eight team points. Israel just missed first place by three feet, three inches. Bison teammate Rian Norris finished sixth overall in the event with a toss of 27 feet, six inches to claim one team point.
Kayla Hardaway finished fifth overall in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 10.22 seconds to bring in two points for the Buff and Blue. Hardaway had the second fastest preliminary time of 9.97 seconds. LVC's Johanna Walker won the event in 9.12 seconds. Hardaway also entered in the 300-meter dash and finished 10th overall (51.50 seconds).
Gallaudet will next compete at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va., next Saturday, February 6.
