Hardaway leads Bison to fifth place finish at SU Spring Classic

SALISBURY, Md. - Freshman Kayla Hardaway (Austin, Texas) earned two second-place finishes at the Salisbury University Spring Classic on Saturday to lead the Gallaudet University women's track and field team to a fifth place finish. The Bison collected 21 team points and finished in the middle of the 10-team field. The host Sea Gulls from Salisbury won the classic with 211 points.

Hardaway finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.26 seconds to earn eight team points. She missed first-place by less than a half second. She later took second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:17.89.

Gallaudet picked up three points in the 100-meter dash as sophomores Janae Cobbs (Sacramento, Calif.) and Rosemary Johnson (Richardson, Texas) placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Cobbs finished in 14.97 seconds as Johnson was a second behind. The pair also ran in the 200-meter dash where Cobbs finished ninth overall (31.71 seconds) and Johnson was 12th (33.79).

Over in the field events, freshman Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) competed in three throwing events for the Bison. She placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 10.30 meters, seventh in the discus (29.18) and 10th in the hammer (23.71). She earned one team point in the shot put and discus for the Bison. Freshman Rian Norris (Cincinnati, Ohio) was 16th in the shot put (7.42) and 17th in the discus (16.76).

Gallaudet will next compete in the Battleground Relays hosted by University of Mary Washington on March 19-20 in Fredericksburg, Va.
