Israel throws Gallaudet to 8th place at the Green and White Invitational

YORK, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women’s track and field program finished eighth out of nine teams in the Green and White Invitational hosted by York (Pa.) College Saturday in York, Pa. The Bison accumulated 15 team points and finished above Howard Community College (nine points) and behind Stevenson University (19 points). The host Spartans from York won the meet with 184 points followed by University of Mary Washington (97 points) and Catholic University of America (92 points).

Sophomore thrower Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) accounted for 93 percent of Gallaudet’s point total as she racked up 14 team points in three different events. She finished second in the discus throw (34.21 meters) to earn eight points. She was three meters off the pace of first-place thrower Paige Shirk from Hagerstown Community College. Israel was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 11.08 meters to claim four team points. The sophomore finished her great day with a fifth-place finish in the javelin (23.80 meters) to grab two additional points.

The other team point earned by the Bison came from the 4x100 meter relay team that consisted of freshmen Tiffany Bridgett, Stephanie Weiss (Wellington, Fla.), sophomore Maddie Morgan (Hockessin, Del.) and senior Brittainy Payne (Pine Hill, N.J.). The GU relay team finished sixth with a time of 1:00.64.

GU also had several runners and throwers come close to earning team points with a few seventh place finishes. Bridgett was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (21.01 seconds), freshman Taryn Philippi (St. Cloud, Minn.) finished the 400-meter dash in 1:15.96, freshman thrower Victoria Rainey (Danvers, Ill.) finished seventh in the shot put (9.58 meters) and discus (28.96 meters).

Gallaudet will travel to Millersville, Pa., next Saturday, April 9, to participate in the Millersville Metrics.
