Coach Boren and USA Deaf National Team bring home the bronze
The United States Deaf National Volleyball team traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina to compete in the first-ever World Deaf Volleyball Championships.
Gallaudet Volleyball Head Coach Lynn Ray Boren also serves as
the Head Coach of the U.S. Deaf National Volleyball team. Several
Bison current and former student-athletes represent the Buff and
Blue as well as the Stars and Stripes: Krystle Berrigan, Kristina
Burke, Tamijo Foronda, Justine
Jeter, Amanda Krieger, Shana
Lehmann, Ludmila Mounty-Weinstock, Micaela Paulone, Pia Marie Paulone, Katelyn
Reese, Charity Sanders and Valerie Trofimenkoff (linked
names represent current Bison student-athletes).
The team opened play in Round 1 against Japan, losing 3-2. The Stars and Stripes then worked their way around the tournament, beating Taipei 3-0, losing to Ukraine 3-2, beating Russia 3-0, winning over Argentina 3-1 in the quarterfinals before losing again to Ukraine 3-1 in the semifinals, securing the third-place finish.
Former Bison standout Valerie Trofimenkoff was ranked the best overall scorer, beating out Rie Azumi of Japan and Irina Miroshnikova of Ukraine.
