Bison sweep NEAC Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week awards
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for the week of September 6 and Gallaudet University swept the two women’s volleyball awards. Freshman Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) was named NEAC Women’s Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week while junior Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) was selected as the NEAC Women’s Volleyball Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week. This is the first time that the NEAC has awarded Defensive Players of the Week for volleyball and men’s and women’s soccer.
Frowick had a smashing debut for the Bison last weekend at the Battlefield Classic as the Bison posted a perfect 4-0 record in Gettysburg, Pa. The freshman middle hitter had 23 kills, 25 digs, 14 blocks and 13 service aces in four matches started. She was named to the Battlefield Classic all-tournament team. In the tournament’s second match for the Bison against Rutgers-Camden, Frowick had eight kills, 10 digs, five blocks and three service aces in the 3-0 straight set win.
Israel led the team with 20 blocks as she made 11 solo blocks and was a part of nine assisted blocks. The junior middle hitter also added 25 kills (.468 attack percentage) and added four digs in four matches started. Her standout game was a 10 block performance (five solo, five assisted) against Penn St.-Altoona last Saturday. The Bison did not drop a set in the two-day tournament.
The two NEAC awards are the first for Gallaudet University this season. The GU volleyball team had four NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week award winners last year.
The Bison will travel to Seguin, Texas, next week when it participate in the Bulldog Classic hosted by Texas Lutheran. GU will start the tournament against Linfield on Friday, September 9.
