GU a runner shy of earning team points, Castro strong in return
SALISBURY, Md. - The Gallaudet University women's cross country team just missed a chance to place at the Don Cathcart Invitational on Saturday at Winter Place Park in Salisbury, Md. The Bison had four runners finish the 5,920-meter course but a team needs five runners to earn team points.
Junior Kayla Castro (Tucson, Ariz.) returned after a week off to finish 33rd overall with a time of 24:38. Freshman Amy Bachtel (Columbus, Ohio) was the next Bison to finish as she crossed the finish line with a time of 28:06 to place 81st overall. Junior Kirsten Swanson (Grapevine, Texas) followed in 94th place (30:59) and freshman Lucita Alford (Chicago, Ill.) was the last Bison to finish in 103rd place (34:54).
John Carroll University won the invitational with 51 team points followed by East Stroudsburg University (59 points) and Shenandoah University (85 points) round out the top three among the 13 teams that competed. GU was the only team not to earn team points.
Gallaudet is slated to be off next week but will return to action on Saturday, October 10, in Towson, Md., at the Goucher Classic.
