Williamson places eighth at Hood College Invitational to lead Bison

FREDERICK, Md. – The Gallaudet University women’s cross country team was one of four teams to run Saturday in the Hood College Invitational held on the Frederick, Md., campus. There were no team scores for this meet.

Sophomore Shadoe Williamson (Austin, Texas) placed the highest a Bison has finished in a race this season as she took eighth place with a time of 23 minutes, 20 seconds. Mary Baldwin runner Sophia Stone won the 5K race in 19:12. Hood and Marymount (Va.) University were the other teams participating in the meet that had 25 runners.

The next Bison to cross the finish line was junior Chelsie Stallings (Sulphur, Okla.) in 13th place (25:12) with teammate Radoslava Slavova (Scranton, Pa.) close behind in 15th place (25:50). The last three Bison finished in order freshman Rachel Young (Leesburg, Va.) in 18th place (29:00), freshman Payal Sharmacharva (Olathe, Kan.) in 19th place (29:05) and senior Olivia Malcolm (St. Augustine, Fla.) in 20th place (30:36).

The women’s team is off next week and will begin preparations for the 2011 North Eastern Athletic Conference championships that will be hosted by SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, October 29.
